Pantry Overhaul

Pantry Overhaul

Picture
Today im so excited to share with you a little project I've been dreaming about for some time now. "My Pantry Overhaul"  A well organized pantry can make life so much easier. I've been dreaming of custom built in shelves since we built our home. Our builder installed the wire shelves which worked good but over time have started to droop due to heavy canned goods and heavier items. A few months ago I was on a mission to find a carpenter who was skilled and reasonably priced to take on the job. I had a friend give me a great referral and Im so glad she did. One evening I sat down in front of my pantry and designed a lay out I had invisioned. I knew I wanted the middle shelf to look more like a "counter top" so I could have some extra counter space to utilize. I also invisioned a couple outlets added to plug small appliances in and a clean and simple backsplash to finish it off.  From there I mapped out and measured a spot for my cook books, canned goods, taller bottles like olive oil and dressings. Also vertical slots to put my serving trays and cookie sheets in without them falling over on me. From there my vision came alive...

{First Steps}

 Clear out the Pantry.
 Go threw all the labels
 on can and boxed goods.
If there expired toss.

May it be yours this Christmas Season and throughout the coming year.
"He makes all things BEAUTIFUL" Ecclesiastes 3:11

We are officially on holidays now and today I spent the day baking shortbread cookies, shopping at some of my favourite stores and picked up some fresh flowers to finish off our home for the holiday season. From our home to yours have a very Merry Christmas xo

I made a simple vignette to add some holiday cheer to my kitchen.  Printed some Christmas quotes from Pinterest to frame and added these adorable drinking glasses with gold font on them for a little bling bling! Stacked a couple boards with some greenery..... Easy and simple.

4 Reasons to move the furniture around in your home...

Moving around furniture, art, rugs, and accessories can be great therapy, among
other positive benefits.  Here's why it's a fun idea to move around the furniture in your home.
1. IT'S FREE
There's no home improvement like FREE home improvement. Am I right? Switching up decor costs no money and it can be done in a short amount of time.

2. IT WILL GIVE YOU A NEW PERSPECTIVE
The day after I switched up our living room i FELT different. I can't explain it, it just was. The reason
why so many of us like to decorate and create beautiful spaces is because it makes you FEEL a certain way. Switching up a room's layout or swapping things around can make you feel better, happier and have a new spring in your step. Try it and you'll see.

3. IT WILL CLEAR OUT THE CLUTTER
This is a HUGE benefit of rearranging. The minute you start to do it, you'll need to move things out of
the way. And the minute you start piling up stuff in one place is the minute you realize you have to
much stuff.  Do yourself and your mind a favor and make a few bags for Goodwill... you'll feel better when you unload.

4. IT WILL CREATE A CLEANER HOME
Of course by moving stuff to the other side of the room will force me to clean the floor under it.
A task I rarely do. lol  Promise me one thing when you switch things up you'll clean as you put them
in their new location? So while your preparing, keep a broom, dust cloth and some cleaner nearby.

You'll have so much fun you'll forget you are actually cleaning in the process.

Front Entrance Makeover

Happy New Year everyone!  Im believing 2017 will be one of your best years yet.
With the new year here I've decided to tackle some fun projects that l've had on my mind for sometime.
Our front enterance has no closet so l've desided to make a more fuctional space by adding in
a custom coat rack with beadboard underneath it to dress it up a bit.
To add to that I painted our front doors a rich blackish grey colour called "Wrought Iron"
by Benjamin Moore. Its such a beauitful colour.
Previously our doors where just a simple white. Its a high traffic area and impossible to keep
clean with kids in and out and guests that visit.  This colour is great for hiding the dirt.
Beadboard dates back to the 19th century, this classic wainscot design has outlived many other stylish
fads. Beadboard wainscot is traditionally used in foyers, bathrooms, hallways and less formal gathering
spaces or primary residences, cottages, and vaction homes.  This easy to install wainscot system
recreates this authentic look and feel in as little as several hours.  Perfect idea for a weekend project!
